Dropkick Murphys sind die erste Wahl, wenn es um laute, fröhliche und trinkfeste Punkmusik geht. Die Band ist die irischste aller US-amerikanischen Punkbands – kommen die Jungs doch aus Boston, wo der St. Patrick’s Day bis heute einer der höchsten Feiertage des Jahres ist und die Dropkick Murphys zum festen Line-Up des Bostoner St. Patrick-Festivals zählen. Die Band um Sänger Shane MacGowan gründete sich 1996 und avancierte in den Staaten schnell zu einem beliebten Live-Act.
Nicht nur live überzeugen die Dropkick Murphys: Ihr Song „I'm Shipping Up To Boston“ gehört zum Soundtrack von Martin Scorseses Kinoklassiker „Departed – Unter Feinden“. Und auch in einer Folge („Debarted“) der TV-Serie „Die Simpsons“ ist der Titel zu hören. Ihr Feierlaune-Sound irgendwo zwischen Punkrock, Folk und Hardcore entsteht neben den typischen Instrumenten Gitarre, Bass und Drums von Dudelsack, Akkordeon, Mandoline und Tin Whistle.
Für ihr Album „Going Out In Style“ konnte die Band niemand Geringeres als Bruce Springsteen für einen musikalischen Gastauftritt gewinnen. Auch Fat Mike von NOFX, Chris Cheney von The Living End und Lenny Clarke von Rescue Me sind mit von der Partie. 2013 veröffentlichte die Band ihr mittlerweile achtes Studio-Album „Signed And Sealed In Blood“, das von der Kritik sowie alten und neuen Fans gefeiert wurde. 2016 traten Dropkick Murphys beim Hurricane Festival auf und legten eine grandiose Live-Performance hin!
